Abstract
Le commentaire d’Eugraphius aux comédies de Térence, que l’on date aujourd’hui du VIe siècle, est longtemps demeuré dans l’ombre de celui de son prédécesseur, le grammairien Aelius Donat. Ce corpus présente pourtant d’intéressantes particularités techniques : notre commentateur ne se contente pas de proposer une étude grammaticale du texte de Térence, mais accorde une place non négligeable à sa lecture rhétorique. Par ailleurs, il se soucie de donner à son commentaire une forme plus rédigée, plus construite, qui explique sans doute que ce texte ait été relativement peu démembré au cours de sa transmission. Cette ambition de produire une oeuvre véritable, et pas une simple accumulation de gloses, témoigne d’une volonté auctoriale qui se manifeste aussi par l’emploi, dans le commentaire, des première et deuxième personnes.
