Abstract
Catherine Langeais a occupé la fonction de « speakerine » à la télévision française de 1950 à 1974. Jusqu’en 1989 elle anime parallèlement plusieurs émissions périodiques renommées de l’époque comme Art et magie de la cuisine (avec le chef Raymond Oliver), La Séquence du spectateur, La Séquence du jeune spectateur ... Les speakerines étaient nécessaires au fonctionnement de la télévision des débuts : non seulement elles présentaient les programmes, mais aussi elles en assuraient la continuité et le lien dans différents contextes, si bien que les plus célèbres d’entre elles ont fini par s’identifier à la télévision et à sa popularité grandissante dans les années 1960. Ainsi Catherine Langeais est apparue comme l’une des « vedettes » de la télévision. Personnage familier, elle recevait un abondant courrier qui attestait l’estime que les téléspectateurs lui portaient. Elle-même avait contribué à dessiner les contours de son personnage médiatique, non seulement à la télévision mais aussi dans la presse quotidienne et les magazines : elle se présentait volontiers comme une femme moderne, cultivée, sportive, bonne mère de famille, bonne épouse, même si cela ne correspondait pas en tous points à la réalité.
