Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

The Western States, members of the European Space Agency, Japan, Canada and the U.S. extended the sphere of cooperation on the space station to the Russian Federation in 1998. Following the conclusion of the era of bipolarism, an unsurpassed synergistic alliance was formed on one of the most visible, competitive projects of the previous antagonism between the two superpowers, in an unprecedented, farreaching international partnership for the exchange of technology and experience gained in the challenging field of astronautics research. In just a few years, grim Soviet secrecy and excessive American protectionist possessiveness of technological developments have turned into the sharing of research, and even collateral exchanges of technologies large and small. National sovereign prerogatives have been safeguarded through political and legal mediation under the aegis of common interest. This great evolutionary leap, then, is the first great conquest of space. The preliminary technical solutions adopted have been political, diplomatic and legal, not scientific. It is upon this platform made of agreements that real, efficient mechanisms of cooperation and operational integration are invented for the  accomplishment of the missions as infinite as they are difficult. But facing the long completion time of its modular structure, which should be completed in 2010, the U.S. is growing disinterested, influenced by high costs and the ongoing economic crisis. The conclusion of the Shuttle program and the likely, and embarrassing, use of Russian Soyuz carriers seem to be pushing Nasa towards a retreat in favor of a hypothetically independent human return to the moon. The post-space station era is now looming. The space industry in India and China offers synergies at economic and political costs that are now attractive even for Nasa.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
