Abstract
Résumé Malgré l’apparition de « quartiers gays » au centre des métropoles occidentales depuis quelques décennies, on connaît mal les rapports des populations homosexuelles à ces espaces. Cet article interroge cette nouvelle figure de la centralité urbaine sous l’angle des trajectoires, des modes de vie et des manières d’être homosexuel des populations résidentes de deux quartiers gays de Paris et Montréal. La reconstitution de leurs trajectoires socio-spatiales, l’analyse de leurs pratiques et de leurs représentations permettent d’identifier plusieurs manières d’entrer et de vivre dans ces quartiers : le quartier gay reste investi de manière très différenciée selon les parcours et les propriétés sociales des individus. Ce résultat amène à remettre en cause certaines images uniformisantes et stigmatisantes au sujet des quartiers gays et des homosexualités contemporaines.
