Abstract
Le bilinguisme des Franco-Canadiens a donné lieu à de multiples représentations théâtrales qui témoignent du changement d’attitude à son égard au fil du temps. D’abord perçu comme agent d’assimilation néfaste au français et banni des scènes francophones, ce bilinguisme s’est manifesté timidement dans les pièces par l’alternance de codes dans les dialogues en langue populaire. Par la suite, l’affirmation nationaliste québécoise et la mondialisation des marchés ont contribué à lui donner une valeur accrue. Les auteurs dramatiques de l’Ouest canadien entreprennent alors de le mettre au service de la création dans des productions qui exploitent sans discrimination toutes leurs ressources linguistiques. Ces écritures proposent des nouveautés esthétiques nourries par un imaginaire translingue qui repousse les limites de la loyauté linguistique.
