"En una época en la que el concepto de Estado-nación es desafiado por la realidad de un mundo globalizado, con regiones que rebasan las fronteras y ciudades que son síntesis del mundo, ¿es pertinente aún hablar de identidades nacionales? En el presente ensayo, dos productos pertenecientes al ámbito de la cultura popular estadounidense nos servirán para interpretar la paradoja en la que se sitúa el concepto de frontera de nuestros días, en relación sobre todo con otro concepto fundamental, el de identidad nacional."
