Maître de conférences à l'Université de Bretagne occidentale, bien connue pour ses travaux sur les girondins, Anne de Mathan continue à défricher un champ qu'elle fréquente de longue date par ses recherches sur Bordeaux et son intérêt pour le genre littéraire des Mémoires (cf.notamment Mémoires de Terreur.L 'an II à Bordeaux, 2002).Cet ouvrage rassemble deux éléments principaux.Le premier se compose de documents inédits rédigés par François Armand Cholet, confiés à Anne de Mathan par Bernard Fauconnier, l'un des descendants de Cholet.Il réunit, d'une part, un « Récit de François Armand de Cholet de sa condamnation à mort, de sa fuite de Bordeaux et de sa vie sous la Terreur, 1793-1794 », d'autre part, un petit livre de raison ouvert en 1780, suspendu en 1793, repris en 1795 et poursuivi de façon discontinue jusqu'à son décès en 1826.Le second document comprend les Mémoires d'un détenu pour servir à l'histoire de la tyrannie Anne de Mathan (éd.), Histoires de Terreur.Les Mémoires de François Armand C...
