Abstract
The Vietnam War fostered the exodus of a number of young Americans who opposed the \nwar on personal as well as moral grounds. Two groups must be distinguished in this regard: \ndraft-dodgers (primarily of middle- and middle-upper class backgrounds) and deserters \n(primarily from the working-class). Their plea turned them into political pawns due to \nCanada’s neutral status in the conflict, as well as to the political turmoil that was unraveling \nin the United States
