Vieillissement de la population dans la région métropolitaine de Montréal : perspectives démographiques locales

Abstract
Cette note de recherche présente les perspectives locales pour 2031 du vieillissement de la population dans la Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal. Les résultats ont été produits par le modèle Local Demographic Simulations (LDS), qui a été développé pour projeter la population à l’échelle locale en intégrant dans ses paramètres des variables contextuelles telles que les plans d’aménagement. Deux indicateurs ont été analysés : la proportion de personnes âgées de 65 ans et plus par municipalité et le taux de croissance de cette population. Nous montrons que les municipalités sont affectées par le vieillissement de différentes manières. Plusieurs municipalités, surtout dans les banlieues en développement, connaîtront une forte croissance du nombre d’aînées causée par le vieillissement sur place des nombreuses familles qui s’installent aujourd’hui dans ces endroits. D’autres municipalités, principalement dans les anciennes banlieues où l’urbanisation est plus avancée, auront en 2031 une très forte proportion de personnes âgées, sans augmentation importante de leur nombre.
