El presente artículo presenta resultados de una investigación cualitativa sobre la construcción y los significados sociales del cuerpo en jóvenes mexicanos. En este artículo se presenta el análisis de las entrevistas semiestructuradas y las entrevistas grupales realizadas en barrios populares de la ciudad de Cuernavaca. Los resultados evidencian cómo el tener un cuerpo de hombre o de mujer, el hacer cuerpo, forma parte de complejos procesos y trayectorias de aprendizaje renegociados de forma continua en los cuales juegan un rol central los condicionantes de género. Así, los agentes sociales aprenden lo que significa el ser hombre o mujer (haciendo género), el actuar y ser tratados e identificados como tales de una manera socialmente situada. Es así que la experiencia de hacer género para estos jóvenes está anclada en y a través del cuerpo.
