Abstract
Au Québec comme ailleurs, la ruralité est un objet difficile à analyser : elle suscite souvent une conclusion désenchantée, comme si la période historique récente conduisait à sa dissolution. À partir des travaux de Hugues Dionne, cet article se propose de rappeler l’actualité de certaines contributions du GRIDEQ, proches d’une sociologie critique, à ce débat. Ces travaux illustrent une évolution lourde de certaines études régionales québécoises qui, d’abord tournées vers les mouvements sociaux et les lieux de vie, connaissent un tournant dans les années 1990 : elles élargissent le regard à d’autres logiques spatiales et valorisent plus nettement une mobilisation locale qui transmue les lieux de vie en territoires, dans un rapport de coopération conflictuelle avec l’État. Cette redéfinition des rapports entre localisation et territorialisation conduit à une conception forte de la communauté qui, entendue comme « recherche de globalité », confère au local une forme de cohérence symbolique et sociale.
