Thuisloze LHBT’s: een onzichtbare en dubbele risicogroep. Pleidooi voor onderzoek naar thuisloze lesbische, homo-, bi- en transgenderjongeren

Abstract
Samenvatting Maar liefst 25 tot 40% van de jongeren die dak- en thuisloos zijn in de Verenigde Staten en in Canada is lesbisch, homo, biseksueel of transgender (Edidin, Ganim, Hunter, & Karnik, 2012; Josephson & Wright, 2000; Ray, 2006). In Nederland is nog nooit onderzoek gedaan naar LHBT-jongeren die dak- of thuisloos zijn. In dit artikel beargumenteren we dat dergelijk onderzoek hard nodig is. Onderzoeksliteratuur uit Nederland laat zien dat LHBT-jongeren gemiddeld meer tegen problemen aanlopen dan leeftijdsgenoten: zowel thuis, op school, als in hun sociale netwerk. Ook hebben ze meer kans om te maken te krijgen met middelengebruik en psychische problematiek, waaronder suïcidaal gedrag en trauma’s. Dergelijke problemen dragen bij aan het dak- en thuisloos worden of blijven van jongeren. Wij beargumenteren dat dit betekent dat er een kans bestaat dat LHBT-jongeren ook in Nederland vaker dak- en thuisloos worden dan andere jongeren. Ook beargumenteren we dat het LHBT zijn van deze jongeren een relevant gegeven is voor de hulpverlening aan deze groep. We sluiten af met een voorstel voor toekomstig onderzoek naar dak- en thuisloze LHBT-jongeren.
