Abstract
Entre dominante réaliste et dominante utopiste, les romans de Christiane Rochefort semblent extrêmement divers. Toutefois, un point de convergence peut être décelé : « Je dois faire un aveu : tous mes livres sont contre l’amour. » Formulation simple, presque lapidaire, qui met en évidence le ton rochefortien, parfois badin, parfois cocasse, le plus souvent direct, dont le dessein premier est de remettre en cause cette évidence, culturelle : l’amour. Forme du pouvoir, l’amour annihile le désir comme voie permettant d’accéder à la conscience. Rochefort attaque les diverses institutions qui tentent de contraindre le désir, non pour subvertir une norme sociale, mais pour créer un espace utopique propice à son expansion. Aussi l’amour apparaît-il comme un lieu de croisement où posture ironique et mise en scène comique correspondraient aux différentes modalités de remise en cause, réalistes et utopiques.AbstractChristiane Rochefort’s novels constantly sway between a realistic and a utopian dominant. That is why they seem to be extremely varied. However, a meeting point can be detected: « To be honest, all my books are against love. » A simple, almost terse phrase that highlights Rochefort’s tone: it is sometimes playful, sometimes funny, mostly straightforward. Its main aim is to question a highly cultural evidence: love. A form of power, love destroys desire as a way to reach consciousness. Rochefort attacks the various institutions that stifle desire, not to subvert social standards but to create a utopian space propicious to its development. Love thus appears as a crossroads where ironical attitude and comical performance could match the questioning modes, both realistic and utopian.
