La résolution de situations-problèmes mathématiques constitue un défi particulièrement grand pour les élèves en difficulté. Dans cet article, nous analysons un dispositif d’aide expérimenté par une enseignante du deuxième cycle du primaire. Ce dispositif consiste à mettre en place un système didactique auxiliaire (SDA), sous la forme d’une séance de travail avec les élèves qu’elle présume être en difficulté, deux jours avant la résolution d’une situation-problème en classe. À l’intérieur de ce SDA, l’enseignante explique la situation-problème et demande aux élèves d’anticiper ce qu’ils devront faire en classe deux jours plus tard. Nous avons dégagé quatre fonctions potentielles de ce dispositif : 1) une fonction chronogénétique, qui se manifesterait entre autres à travers le temps supplémentaire dont disposent les élèves en difficulté et la possibilité de connaître le problème avant qu’il ne soit traité en classe; 2) une fonction topogénétique, qui pourrait aider les élèves en difficulté à assumer leur position d’élève; 3) une fonction mésogénétique, qui permettrait aux élèves de rencontrer les paramètres de la situation-problème; et 4) une dialectique entre la suspension et l’anticipation de l’action. Nous présentons en quoi consistent ces fonctions potentielles et nous nous interrogeons sur les conditions de viabilité de ce système didactique auxiliaire.
