Abstract
Cet article propose une analyse sociologique des transformations des pratiques sportives avec l’avancée en âge. Si le vieillissement semble inexorablement se traduire par une réduction des activités, de plus en plus nombreux sont les seniors, même âgés, qui persistent dans une pratique physique ou sportive, quelquefois éloignée de la norme médicale de modération. Une enquête par entretiens menée auprès de 124 seniors, hommes et femmes, âgés de 50 à 89 ans, pratiquant notamment des gymnastiques d’entretien, des courses de longue durée, du tennis, permet de mettre en évidence une typologie des trajectoires sportives et des stratégies contrastées d’adaptation au vieillissement, entre économie et surenchère d’efforts.
