Abstract
À partir de l’exemple algérien, cet article se propose d’analyser et d’interpréter les pratiques d’appropriation et d’usage des espaces urbains, avec un intérêt particulier accordé au mode d’habiter et aux rapports entre espace privé et espace public. Ces pratiques se concrétisent par l’adaptation de l’habitat aux besoins des occupants, par des débordements multiples et variés sur l’espace public et, plus généralement, par le contournement des normes officielles. Elles reflètent à la fois des représentations imprégnées de permanences culturelles et des stratégies résidentielles et économiques visant l’accès au modèle urbain dit universel.
