Abstract
L’article propose d’étudier les modalités de la participation habitante dans une opération expérimentale d’accession sociale initiée par l’établissement d’aménagement La Défense Seine Arche et la municipalité de Nanterre. Cette configuration particulière, qui place les habitants face à une injonction participative, pose des questions quant à l’articulation possible entre encadrement public et participation. L’étude montre que les futurs habitants ont fait de la promesse d’accéder à la propriété privée le fondement d’une identité collective et d’une implication croissante dans le projet. Institutions et professionnels peinent néanmoins à accorder une reconnaissance positive à cette dynamique, en raison de décalages entre leurs attentes et leurs représentations implicites, et les valeurs défendues par les habitants.
