Abstract
L’objectif principal de cet article est de faire un tour d’horizon des politiques linguistiques mises en place au Sénégal, de la période coloniale au lendemain de l’Indépendance. Il s’agit plus précisément de porter un regard sur les conséquences glottopolitiques (Guespin, Marcellesi, 1986) de la planification linguistique dite de francisation héritée du système colonial français. En quoi la perpétuation de cette politique de francisation par l’État postcolonial sénégalais a-t-elle impulsé une dynamique politique débouchant sur un engagement sans faille pour la défense des langues nationales ? Quelles sont les idéologies mises en œuvre par Senghor, premier président du Sénégal indépendant, pour justifier le choix du français comme langue officielle et d’enseignement ?
