Inocencio Mamani (1904-1990) fue un escritor de la ciudad de Puno (Peru) que a fines de la decada de 1920 se dio a conocer en circuitos indigenistas como autor de obras de teatro en quechua y fue declarado el primer escritor “indio” del quechua. El articulo examina como fue que Mamani, que pertenecia a la clase obrera urbana, se convirtio en un importante, aunque ahora poco conocido escritor quechua, y el papel que tuvieron indigenistas locales como Gamaliel Churata y Francisco Chukiwanka Ayulo en este proceso y en su construccion como autor indigena. Tambien se discuten las caracteristicas generales de sus escritos en quechua en relacion a las tradiciones literarias del quechua.
