L’adhésion sociale aux grands projets d’aménagement reste un enjeu majeur pour les pouvoirs publics, singulièrement lorsque les équipements programmés ont des effets écologiques, environnementaux et paysagers d’envergure sur les territoires. Lors d’un projet de déplacement de ligne à très haute tension (THT) en région Champagne-Ardenne (France), l’opérateur Réseau de transport électrique (RTE-Nord) a souhaité adjoindre aux dispositifs officiels de participation une démarche collaborative avec des habitants. Sa pierre d’angle, une conférence citoyenne, a fait ressortir des savoirs dits habitants comme essentiels pour la contribution des vécus ordinaires des participants à la construction active de géographies différentes et de leurs représentations cartographiques. Ces vécus font de l’espace non plus un simple support d’implantation d’un équipement, mais un territoire comme opérateur social de capacitation dans la production de sens géographiques. Les grands paysages apparaîtraient alors comme moyens de fonder autrement le commun et son agir.
