L’identité sourde contemporaine, comme enjeu de la « culturalisation » de la surdité exprimée à travers la figure du Sourd, met en dialogue plusieurs logiques sociétales. Le présent article se penche sur deux de ces logiques. En ce qu’elles renvoient à des mondes en rupture et en continuité, les logiques de prise en charge et de revendications identitaires au coeur du processus de communautarisation de l’identité sourde permettent d’explorer les négociations à l’oeuvre dans la construction de la surdité comme réalité ethnique et culturelle. L’identité sourde, répondant à ces deux logiques, apparaît ainsi comme une complexe dyade. Dyade qui, si elle éclaire certains aspects de la figure du Sourd, n’épuise pas les questions soulevées par la « culturalisation » de la surdité.
