Abstract
La perplexité éprouvée par l'auteure face à l'objet de la sociologie des relations ethniques est à l'origine de la réflexion amorcée dans cet article. Si t'examen du discours propre à ce champ apporte quelques éclaircissements, il ne dissipera point ses inquiétudes. Affirmant que l'on aurait tort de réduire l'ethnicité à la transmission de marques biologiques et/ou culturelles, ou encore à une invention de toutes pièces d'une bourgeoisie machiavélique, l'auteure poursuit sa quête visant à définir et à théoriser cette mystérieuse ethnicité. Elle découvrira alors que l'ethnicité est un concept utilisé pour désigner l'humanité des autres, une humanité que chaque nouveau-né acquiert grâce au travail accompli par les femmes dans le cadre d'un procès de travail appelé socialisation par les énoncia-teurs masculins du discours sociologique.
