Cet article porte sur la pertinence d’utiliser, en amont d’une démarche de collecte de données, un cadre conceptuel dans une recherche adoptant une approche inductive. Les résultats présentés reposent sur l’expérience concrète d’une recherche réalisée sur le sol africain et qui porte sur les enseignants togolais en tant que passeurs culturels. L’objectif était d’explorer l’expérience des enseignants togolais oeuvrant dans des écoles primaires publiques du Togo, spécifiquement sur leur fonction de passeur culturel. Afin d’appréhender le phénomène tel qu’il est vécu par les enseignants togolais, nous avons dû opérer une clarification conceptuelle autour du concept de passeur culturel parce que nous avons eu besoin de bien cerner l’objet de recherche lui-même. Par la suite, nous avons pu analyser le vécu de la tâche de passeur culturel comme elle se traduit non seulement dans le discours de l’enseignant, mais aussi dans sa pratique en classe.
