Présente dans les médias de l’écrit, l’image y révèle une part de subjectivité induite par sa position et la stratégie qui est à l’origine de son choix. Comme le texte écrit, la photographie mise au service de l’information est susceptible de véhiculer un certain nombre de lieux communs. Dans cet article, nous proposons une réflexion sur les photographies publiées dans les quotidiens Libération et Le Devoir au cours de la crise des caricatures de Mahomet. Mettre côte à côte les photographies de ces deux quotidiens francophones est un moyen efficace de pointer les différences et les convergences du traitement de cette crise et, au-delà, de s’intéresser à la représentation faite de la religion et de l’islam dans les médias de France et du Québec.
