Abstract
Este artículo analiza la participación ciudadana y de las organizaciones comunitarias en el sistema de salud de la provincia canadiense de Québec. La participación es un tema de gran relevancia para la democracia, y también para la eficiencia y la eficacia de los servicios públicos. En el sistema de salud quebequense coexisten diferentes modalidades de participación: participación consultiva de la población, a través de asambleas y foros públicos; participación decisional mediante cargos en los consejos de administración de los organismos regionales y los establecimientos de salud y servicios sociales. La integración de los servicios de salud y de los servicios sociales en el seno de una misma administración es un rasgo original del sistema quebequense. Otro rasgo distintivo es la importancia del movimiento social, llamado en Québec movimiento comunitario, que ha logrado hacer reconocer importantes innovaciones en el abordaje de los problemas sociales y de salud.
