Résumé Depuis plusieurs années, Montréal tente de développer son industrie de la mode et de se faire une place au niveau international. Toutefois, les petites entreprises de mode québécoises éprouvent certaines difficultés à se développer. Bien que plusieurs P.M.E. de mode soient créées chaque année, très peu demeurent en exploitation plus de dix ans; cela incite à se demander ce qui distingue les entreprises qui échouent de celles qui prospèrent. L’article comprend quatre parties. Dans la première partie, nous présentons l’industrie québécoise de la mode, à l’époque où a été réalisée notre étude. Dans la deuxième partie, nous expliquons notre méthodologie de recherche ainsi que les variables qui ont été retenues. Dans la troisième partie, nous décrivons les cinq entreprises examinées, dont deux sont encore en activité, les trois autres ayant fermé leurs portes. La quatrième partie est consacrée aux leçons que nous pouvons tirer de l’histoire de ces P.M.E.
