Abstract
L’Amérique latine connaît une période de stabilité démocratique qui ne correspond pourtant pas à une période de grande prospérité économique. L’ouverture, la dérégulation et les privatisations des économies nationales dans les années 1990 ont fait des réformes néolibérales et de la globalisation deux processus indissociables. Mais les récentes élections ont mis en évidence une croissance de forces politiques critiquant les réformes économiques. Cependant, les alternatives, systémiques comme antisystémiques, demeurent relativement modérées. Dans la mesure où la structure politique offre des alternatives, le choix reste dans le cadre des institutions ; le populisme demeure alors un deuxième choix favorisé par l’absence d’alternatives institutionnelles.
