Abstract
Françoise, pseudonyme de Robertine Barry (1863-1910), première jounaliste canadienne-française rémunérée pour le quotidien libéral La Patrie (1891-1900), fonde son propre périodique, Le Journal de Françoise en 1902. La pensée de Françoise s’y articule autour de deux axes majeurs pendant les sept années de sa parution. Elle milite en faveur de l’émancipation des femmes et de leur droit à prendre une place à part entière dans la société. En même temps, elle défend la liberté de pensée et d’expression. Ses prises de position, qui ne vont pas sans susciter des conflits avec M gr Paul Bruchési, archevêque de Montréal, révèlent son audace et sa modernité.
