Abstract
Este texto apresenta uma série de idéias propostas pela equipe de pesquisadores do GRIPAL (Groupe de Recherches sur les Imaginaires Politiques en Amérique Latine), da Universidade de Quebec, em Montreal, acerca das relações entre os imaginários religiosos e políticos na América Latina. Tais formulações resultam de pesquisas de campo realizadas na Argentina, Brasil, Chile, México e Venezuela. A amostra é composta de dois terços de indivíduos das camadas desfavorecidas, pertencentes aos segmentos católico e evangélico (predominantemente pentecostais e neo-pentecostais), e de um terço de estudantes universitários. O texto analisa, em primeiro lugar, a impregnação do imaginário religioso nesses segmentos religiosos e sociais, em seguida, a presença do imaginário político e, por fim, analisa as relações existentes entre ambos os imaginários. No texto, é estabelecido um diálogo entre as formulações do mencionado grupo canadense e aquelas propostas por alguns autores latino-americanos acerca do mesmo objeto.
