Abstract
Le roman post-apocalyptique de Robert Merle, Malevil, place un groupe de survivants dans un univers où la linéarité a été rompue, où le monde d’avant, l’ordre ancien ont été dévastés par « une bombe propre ». Ce groupe secrétera le grand homme dont il a besoin, Emmanuel. Après l’événement qui provoque une situation de déséquilibre, il faut qu’advienne la figure messianique, refondatrice, qui fait à la fois office de pasteur veillant sur ses brebis et de chef militaire. Emmanuel, c’est aussi la figure civilisatrice au sens où il crée le liant, œuvre pour que le groupe fasse corps en sacrifiant l’intérêt individuel au bien commun. Mais c’est aussi un messie très politique qui déploie pour asseoir son charisme des talents de stratège, de nouveau Prince, de politicien. Porté par sa foi en l’homme, son optimisme volontariste, il est celui qui, par-delà la brèche, permet d’inaugurer une ère nouvelle.
