Abstract
L’invention de l’ethnozoologie en Afrique de l’Ouest entre 1928 et 1960, à une période où l’ethnologie française se professionnalise et où de nouvelles méthodologies d’enquête de terrain sont mises en place, donne à voir la construction de savoirs inédits, à la croisée de l’ethnologie et de la zoologie. Les ethnologues africanistes de l’époque, et Marcel Griaule en premier lieu, entretiennent des relations variées et souvent privilégiées avec les animaux. Une certaine fascination pour la faune africaine joue à coup sûr un rôle dans l’intérêt scientifique que ces ethnologues développent pour les savoirs zoologiques locaux. Décrire les manières de faire de l’ethnozoologie oblige ainsi à tenir compte des manières dont les ethnologues sont affectés par les animaux concernés, à travers le goût qu’ils entretiennent pour la chasse, leurs pratiques de collecte et de capture, ou encore leurs gestes d’attachement.
