Abstract
L’analyse de trois essais publiés par Fernand Dumont sur la religion dans la société québécoise : Pour la conversion de la pensée chrétienne (1964), L’institution de la théologie. Essai sur la situation du théologien (1987) et Une foi partagée (1996), ainsi que du Rapport de la Commission d’étude sur les laïcs et l’Église, dont il a assumé la présidence, met en évidence son constat systématique d’une « Église en crise ». Ces ouvrages sur la religion et la foi conservent une étonnante actualité pour aujourd’hui et méritent d’être relus pour repenser les liens de la crise religieuse à la crise sociale. Si la crise, pour Dumont, est permanente, elle a pour fonction de transformer les acteurs, plutôt que d’être « traitée » par des observateurs. Dumont construit ainsi la position du théologien engagé en tant qu’acteur social, médiateur entre des instances autrement isolées, l’institution et les communautés croyantes.
