Première chronologie OSL des formations fluvio-lacustres de la vallée de la Karasu : implications sur la paléogéographie du bassin du lac de Van (Turkey)

Le lac de Van (1 648 m) est une référence paléoclimatique et paléoenvironnementale pour le Moyen-Orient. Les études précédentes ont montré que son évolution au cours du Dernier Glaciaire était étroitement liée aux changements climatiques. Dans la vallée de la Karasu (partie orientale du bassin du lac de Van), une approche chrono-stratigraphique des formations fluvio-lacustres par la stratigraphie séquentielle et les datations OSL permet de donner un cadre chronologique aux évolutions paléogéographiques de la vallée et du bassin lacustre en lien avec les variations du niveau d’eau. L’analyse de trois hauts niveaux identifiés et datées dans le secteur amont (analyse transversale des dépôts) en connexion avec l’aval (analyse longitudinale) permet de reconstituer les grandes variations du niveau du lac dans l’espace et le temps. Nos résultats montrent que le plus haut niveau lacustre enregistré (≥ 1 750 m, i.e. 100 m au-dessus du niveau du lac actuel) semble être contemporain de l’Interglaciaire précédent (MIS 5) comme le suggère un âge OSL de 135 ± 27 ka. Ce premier haut niveau est à l’origine d’une vaste submersion de l’ensemble de la basse vallée actuelle de la Karasu s’étendant jusqu’aux versants montagneux. Entre ce haut niveau et le Pléniglaciaire, le lac de Van connaît un second maximum daté par l’OSL à 33 ± 6,6 ka (MIS 3) qui ennoie l’équivalent du fond de vallée actuel élargi, notamment dans la partie aval. Le niveau d’eau maximum est alors à 1735 m, soit + 87 m au dessus du niveau actuel. Durant le Pléniglaciaire, le lac de Van connait un troisième haut niveau datée par OSL à 22 ± 4,4 ka – 20,7 ± 4,1 ka, avec un maximum lacustre supérieur à 1705 m. Cette dernière grande transgression qui se produit par à-coups est à l’origine de l’occupation par le lac du fond de vallée actuel jusqu’en amont. Dans le secteur amont, la reprise de l’aggradation alluviale se fait vers 12,6 ± 2,5 ka, en lien probablement avec une remontée du niveau de base lacustre.
