On part ici du constat de l’urgente nécessité de combler la béance s’étant progressivement installée entre l’esthétique philosophique et une forme d’expression majeure de la culture afro-américaine et de l’art moderne en général : le jazz. Le virulent rejet adornien de cette musique apparaît rapidement comme emblématique de la rigidité conceptuelle occidentale. On postule alors que la discussion qu’il entreprit dans les années 1930 avec son ami Walter Benjamin au sujet de « l’aura des reproductibles » est le lieu d’un dépassement possible de certains topoï de l’esthétique qui condamnent l’art à ne jamais s’écarter de la « Grande tradition » de jour en jour plus moribonde.
