Résumé Sur la base d’enquêtes quantitatives réalisées en 1994 et 2004 auprès des directions financières, cet article traite des pratiques comptables et financières des sociétés cotées à partir du cas français. Il met en évidence les changements intervenus au cours de la dernière décennie sous l’effet combiné de la pression des marchés, de l’évolution de la réglementation et des progrès techniques. Les résultats issus de cet échantillonnage indiquent une nette évolution des pratiques vers une optimisation des processus comptables et le perfectionnement des outils de pilotage. Ils traduisent une adaptation des pratiques comptables des sociétés cotées françaises en vue d’une amélioration continue de la qualité de l’information financière en réponse aux exigences croissantes des marchés financiers. Selon une approche contingente, les organisations comptables des sociétés cotées actualisent leurs pratiques par une intégration appropriée et mesurée des nouvelles dispositions réglementaires. Enfin, dans la perspective d’une optimisation de la production comptable, elles s’appuient sur les progrès technologiques résultant des nouvelles technologies de l’information et de la communication et des progiciels de gestion intégrés.
