Abstract
RESUME Le nord-est du continent americain est situe en plein milieu d'une plaque tectonique. Neanmoins, on y recense frequemment des secousses sismiques de magnitudes significatives. De plus, etant donne la forte densite de population, ce territoire est considere a risque sismique important. Il n'existe que tres peu de donnees sismiques historiques relatives a l'alea sismique nord-est americain et le mecanisme lie a leurs secousses reste mal connu. Malgre tout, des infrastructures sont constamment construites et ou renovees considerant ce risque sismique afin d'etre securitaire. L'objectif principal de la recherche presentee dans ce memoire est d'estimer les demandes sismiques en deplacements elastiques et inelastiques au Quebec et au Canada. Tout d'abord, une revue de litterature a presente l'enjeu des recherches en genie parasismique au Canada et les mesures contenues dans le code des ponts en vigueur (CSA-S6-06). L'etude de deux methodes de dimensionnement differentes, basees sur les deplacements, a permis d'identifier les ingredients dependant du seisme applique afin d'etre evalue dans un contexte sismique de l'est du Canada. La revue de litterature a permis de constater que plusieurs codes dans le monde, excepte le code canadien, limitent les deplacements residuels.----------ABSTRACT The northeastern part of the American continent is located in the middle of a tectonic plate. Nevertheless, ground motions of significant magnitude occur frequently in this region. Being densely populated, the area is associated with considerable seismic risk. There is very little historical seismic data corresponding to the Eastern North American seismic hazard and the underlying earthquake mechanisms remain unclear. Nevertheless, the infrastructures are constantly built and renovated considering no harm from the seismic risk. The main objective of the research presented in this thesis is to estimate elastic and inelastic seismic displacement demands in Quebec and Canada. First, a literature review presented the objectives of research in earthquake engineering in Canada and the measures prescribed in the current Canadian Highway Bridge Code (CSA-S6-06). The study of two different displacement-based design methods, permitted identification of the ingredients depending on the applied ground motion records, to be evaluated in the seismic context of eastern Canada. The literature review showed that several codes in the world, except the Canadian Code, set a limit for residual displacement.
