Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

Popular Education, while extremely widespread among adult education, has also been susceptible to cooptation for purposes inconsistent with Freire’s revolutionary Marxist goals. This paper addresses the problematic of cooptation by arguing for a re-centering of Marxist-Feminism in Popular Education. While Freire’s eclecticism may be the reason his pedagogy has been so repeatedly coopted, I argue that this cooptation can be inhibited by understanding the role of Marxist-Feminism in adult learning. Consistent with the goals and methods of Popular Education, Marxist-Feminism provides a sound theoretical framework educators can build into their pedagogical practice. Educators unafraid to voice their theoretical adherence to Marxist-Feminism can democratically direct the learning process towards desired goals of critical consciousness.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
