Abstract
Envisager l’histoire environnementale de la forêt au regard des représentations collectives n’est pas chose courante. C’est pourtant ce que nous proposons dans cet article qui porte sur la territorialité. Les représentations sont des images, des perceptions, voire des idées, qui prennent forme dans les mentalités à différentes époques. Elles s’inscrivent ici en comparaison avec deux imaginaires sociaux : celui des autochtones et celui des coloniaux (allochtones). Nous abordons également la transformation du paysage, dans la mesure où le rapport à l’environnement de sociétés différentes a eu des incidences sur la notion de territorialité. Cet article, tout en soulignant l’existence d’une territorialité autochtone originale, met en évidence le contexte d’appropriation du territoire et de transformation de l’environnement sous-jacent à la représentation allochtone (coloniale) de la forêt.
