Abstract
INTRODUCTION L’extravasation, un epanchement de liquide intraveineux dans le tissu interstitiel, est une complication bien connue, mais peu frequente de l’administration de medicaments par voie intraveineuse 1. Le probleme est d’autant plus important lors de l’utilisation de medicaments vesicants et irritants, car ce phenomene peut mener a des dommages tissulaires allant jusqu’a la necrose. La documentation scientifique cite une incidence entre moins de 1 % et 11 %, mais l’incidence reelle est probablement plus elevee car l’extravasation des medicaments non-vesicants n’est habituellement pas rapportee 2. Le present rapport discute de l’evolution d’un cas d’extravasation de phenytoine traite fortuitement avec de la phentolamine, un antagoniste a-adrenergique utilise lors d’extravasation de vasopresseurs.
