Kamouraska, de Anne Hébert, em tradução brasileira: o tema da maternidade

Abstract
Este trabalho tem por objetivo analisar o tema da maternidade na tradução brasileira do romance Kamouraska (1970), da escritora quebequense Anne Hébert (1916-2000). A tradução recebeu o título de A máscara da inocência (1972) e foi realizada por Leônidas Gontijo de Carvalho. Hébert assume uma posição ousada, para o Quebec dos anos setenta, quando trata de questões ligadas à maternidade, pois as mulheres de sua obra são representadas como insatisfeitas e não como altruístas, em conformidade com a ideologia conservadora quebequense. Buscaremos observar como essa insatisfação é retratada no texto em português, comparando-o ao original em francês, de modo a verificar se podemos depreender, do texto traduzido, atenuação na crítica à situação oprimida da mulher, que é uma preocupação da autora, não só na obra em estudo, mas também em outras. A problemática relação entre mãe e filha também faz parte desta análise.
