La cittŕ di Montreal continua a giocare un ruolo preponderante in materia di sviluppo e di pianificazione della biodiversitŕ, sia alla scala locale che internazionale. Il Settore di Coordinamento della Biodiversitŕ della Cittŕ di Montreal, promuove azioni di diffusione e di integrazione tra le politiche settoriali, della natura in cittŕ, dell'ambiente e dello sviluppo sostenibile. La cittŕ porta avanti modelli di pianificazione della biodiversitŕ e della loro interessante trasversalitŕ nei diversi livelli operativi e amministrativi, presi come esempi da altre realtŕ urbane canadesi e internazionali. Gli strumenti urbanistici municipali mirano alla prevenzione, educazione, conservazione e concertazione, grazie alla ricerca scientifica, alla gestione ecologica dei grandi parchi, alla preservazione degli ecosistemi urbani e alla salvaguardia delle specie rare.
