Abstract
À Damas, durant l’époque ottomane, la production d’une vaisselle à pâte siliceuse et décor peint sous glaçure ne s’interrompt guère. Longtemps mal identifiée, voire ignorée, cette production s’inspire largement de la céramique dite « d’Iznik », contemporaine, tout en possédant des spécificités techniques et formelles. Après un rappel historique portant sur la redécouverte et l’identification de cette vaisselle damascène d’époque ottomane, nous proposons une ébauche de caractérisation, basée sur l’analyse et la description d’un corpus de pièces conservées dans des collections publiques et privées ou passées sur le marché de l’art. Nous revenons également sur les indices littéraires et archéologiques relatifs à cette production et sur la question de son évolution chronologique et de sa datation.
