Abstract
Retenues en 2002 par le législateur français comme solution aux défaillances de l’offre de soins psychiatriques aux détenus, les Unités Hospitalières Spécialement Aménagées (UHSA) constituent une rupture critiquée dans notre culture soignante. Dix ans après la promulgation de la loi, seules trois des neuf premières unités prévues ont pu voir le jour. Du fait de leur coût, leur déploiement national pourrait rester limité, laissant craindre la persistance de nombreuses inégalités d’accès aux soins. Nous proposons ici un premier constat de ce projet qui, tout en représentant une réelle amélioration sanitaire, fait redouter un changement de regard sociétal sur la maladie mentale et invite à une profonde réforme de notre politique de santé mentale.
