A novel concept to read out weak signals from an array of uncooled IR resistance bolometer detectors is presented. Each detector in the array is a part of an RC oscillator, designed in a 0.8 /spl mu/m CMOS process within the pixel area. Incoming radiation changes the detector temperature and resistance, which leads to a deviation in phase. This deviation is integrated in each pixel typically during 20 ms. It is shown that the deviation can be accurately and digitally read out from a large two-dimensional array. IR response and pixelwise A/D conversion readout are demonstrated using a thin film bolometer detector. A Noise Equivalent Temperature Difference (NETD) of 0.1 K has been measured.
