Priones: una revisión de la enfermedad debilitante crónica y su posible control anti-priónico

Abstract
Los priones son proteinas del sistema nervioso, que cuando sufren cambios en su estructura proteica son responsables de generar enfermedades neurodegenerativas. Existe un gran interes por la alta estabilidad de estas moleculas. Estudios senalan que poseen una alta resistencia a ser inactivadas por varios agentes y que pueden persistir en la tierra anos despues de ser enterradas, generando una reserva de infectividad ambiental. En la medicina veterinaria existen varios animales domesticos susceptibles a estas enfermedades, pero en la medicina de animales silvestres solo se ha registrado una familia: los cervidos. El objetivo del articulo es recopilar la informacion mas reciente y relevante de las enfermedades prionicas y analizar desde una perspectiva general la enfermedad debilitante cronica con el fin de facilitar el entendimiento del prion como agente etiologico, de los tipos de enfermedades prionicas y a manera de estudio de caso desarrollar la enfermedad prionica en vida silvestre. Las enfermedades prionicas en la medicina veterinaria de animales silvestres es en pocas ocasiones tema de estudio. Sin embargo, la resistencia de la proteina prionica junto con su propagacion agresiva en los Estados Unidos y Canada han convertido estas enfermedades en un tema de estudio relevante. La enfermedad debilitante cronica no aparenta ser zoonotica, pero en el pasado ha habido evidencia de enfermedades prionicas adaptandose y pudiendo afectar a humanos. El hallazgo reciente de una proteina anti-prionica se constituye en una nueva forma para tratar y poder controlar estas enfermedades prionicas.
