Jusqu’à présent, les études sur la répartition de cette ressource rare qu’est le temps se sont essentiellement focalisées sur la distribution du temps individuel et sur le partage des activités entre les membres du ménage. L’Enquête sociale générale canadienne de 1998 sur l’Emploi du temps permet d’aller plus loin dans la compréhension de l’organisation de la famille, non seulement en décrivant l’emploi du temps des membres du ménage, mais aussi en mesurant le temps passé à accomplir des activités en commun. Dans cet article, nous exploitons le fait que la présence des enfants du ménage dans la même pièce que le répondant a été systématiquement relevée pour décrire les interactions entre parents et enfants. Nous examinons, d’une part, les variations du temps parental selon différentes caractéristiques des répondants. D’autre part, nous montrons, au moyen d’une analyse multivariée, que le temps parental diffère peu entre les familles intactes et les familles recomposées.
