Les auteures présentent les résultats d’une recherche qualitative portant sur la compréhension de la trajectoire professionnelle de femmes qui sont retournées aux études dans un programme d’alphabétisation. Une analyse de leur trajectoire sociale avant et après le processus d’alphabétisation permet de comprendre la manière dont divers espaces de socialisation (famille, école, formation) influent sur les formes de travail dans lesquelles ces femmes s’engagent. La recherche a d’ailleurs mis en perspective que ces femmes, après une formation en alphabétisation, s’orientent vers des secteurs d’emploi traditionnellement féminins : le soin aux autres. C’est dans ces filières d’emploi qu’elles disent se sentir reconnues et valorisées.
