L’article rappelle d’abord les racines écologiques des cultures latino-américaines, toujours très vigoureuses. Il évoque quelques éléments communs aux cultures ancestrales pour ensuite se pencher sur la façon dont elles ont composé avec l’hégémonie de la culture coloniale baroque latino-américaine afin d’accoucher d’un syncrétisme à saveur chamanique et magique. Avec l’irruption de la modernité, cette matrice culturelle, dont l’expérience religieuse constitue l’âme, est de nos jours le lieu d’un épanouissement renouvelé. L’article s’achève en s’interrogeant sur la façon d’aborder cette richesse multicolore des cultures latino-américaines dans un esprit pastoral.
