La muerte es uno de los temas de mayor complejidad y riqueza en el mundo cultural maya contemporáneo, pues tiene variadas acepciones desde la personificación de la muerte hasta la muerte como castigo. En este artículo estudiaré específicamente la personificación de la muerte en tres relatos contemporáneos de los mayas de Yucatán: La Pobreza, de María Luisa Góngora Pacheco, de la región de Oxkutzcab y Maní; tres textos de Cuentos sobre las apariciones en el Mayab, de Andrés Tec Chi, de Telchac Pueblo, y Cómo una viejecita engañó a la muerte, de Vicente Canché Moo, de Maxcanú.
