Abstract
Cet article explore une question fondamentale pour le contexte canadien, celle du rapport aux premiers peuples canadiens ou peuple fondateurs. Il rappelle que malgré sa rhétorique multiculturelle, le colonialisme, tel que sanctionné par les Nations Unies, est solidement établi au Canada, même si la culture dominante du pays l’ignore largement. Les conséquences culturelles du régime colonial ont été dévastatrices pour les peuples aborigènes du Canada. Historiquement enfermés dans leur réserves, souvent incapables de s’adonner à la chasse traditionnelle, les Premières Nations ont connu une détérioration de leur culture. Très récemment, pendant les années 1990, les Églises ont joint leurs voix au processus vital de réconciliation et l’on peut trouver une théologie implicite qui mérite d’être étudiée, parmi les multiples excuses et récits qu’elles ont élaborés.
